Hello, my name is Jim Cyr and I would like to help you to DANCE IN YOUR TWILIGHT.
I want this to be a dancefloor of welcome and wisdom for senior citizens.
The twilight years from our retirement to our passing, or the years as we continue to work into our seventies or eighties, are a time of challenge, but also a time of tremendous creativity and growth if we listen to the wisdom our life experience sings to us.
Our life experience is the song we can dance to in our twilight years if we listen carefully.
American culture and media’s ageism (the tendency to regard older persons as debilitated, unworthy of attention, or unsuitable for employment) tells you what is impossible because of your age. I am here to tell you what is possible because of your age.
My goal for this Substack is to help you to:
- Dance with your body in decline.
- Dance with what was, what is, and what will be.
- Dance with your caregiving.
- Dance with your family as you face end of life.
- Dance with your soul as your soul as you mine the meaning of your life.
- Dance with your death.
“I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty-handed…
I hope you dance (dance)”
Lee Anne Womack,
Who am I to help you dance in your twilight?
I am a senior citizen facing the same challenges you are.
I worked in mental health as a crisis intervention specialist.
I am a retired pastor, correctional chaplain, and hospice chaplain.
I have lived through divorce, remarriage, and the death of my spouse.
I am married again at age 67 and ecstatically happy.
I have step children from two marriages.
I am a certified spiritual companion.
I am learning to dance in twilight myself.
So put on your dancing shoes and meet me here each week for insight, stories, and resources to help you dance in your twilight.
Jim Cyr is a trained spiritual companion who helps older adults reflect on the meaning of their lives and how God has been present or absent as they face the challenges of aging and end of life.
